Parental Resources at your Request: SCCPSS and Parent University's partnership is At Your Service

Michael O'Neal: Our parents will leave here realizing that there are so many resources out there for them.

Ken Slats: Resources for parents, grandparents. Anyone in need serving a role... Raising our students at SCCPSS.

Tameka Tribble: Because we're not telling them what they need. We're asking them and then we're seeking the resources in the community and in our schools to help to provide what they say they needed.

Michael O'Neal: Our parents want to come out and be their best. What we have to do is create spaces that are welcoming, spaces that are reassuring and uplifting and effective.

Ken Slats: And this partnership with parent university has done just that. For more than two decades. Gathering resources throughout the school year to educate families.

Michael O'Neal: Our commitment to making sure that parents have a space has nurtured this kind of culture, and what we're finding out is that parents are more than willing. They're enthusiastic about coming out and making themselves better and the children better.

Tameka Tribble: And what you're wanting to do is take the family, take a student, take a person from dependency oriented where they're needing these resources and are needing to learn how to implement, how to use these resources to autonomy oriented to where they're empowered now to know how to use them, to use them independently. And now to then show someone else how to use these resources and provide awareness around those resources.

Ken Slats: Empowering families strengthens confidence and supports the mission of Parent University, providing support, guidance and nurturing to assure the realization of family success.

Tameka Tribble: When you leave here, we want you to feel like you can engage with the confidence and the competence you need to support your child and also to support yourself.

Michael O'Neal: If you were the CEO of a company, you would be expected to find out the information your company needs to thrive. Well, we call our parents CEOs, and I think these kind of spaces help parents to practice looking like CEOs of their companies, which is their families. Come out, get the information you need and execute.

Ken Slats: The next opportunities to reap the rewards of this partnership. Are Saturday, October 4th, 9:30 at Groves High School and November 15th, same time at Heard Elementary. For SCCPSS. I'm Ken Slats.
