Our Schools

General Music

In music class we:

Sing, Say, Dance, and Play

in a tuneful, beat-ful, artful way!

Music provides a powerful means of engaging students in learning and improving their achievement.

Fundamental in a student's overall social, emotional, and cognitive development, music enhances reasoning, inspires creativity, and encourages critical thinking, self-discipline, problem-solving, decision-making, cooperation, and imagination. Music enables students to learn about themselves, other people, and humanity in general.

Goals for the children:

Accurate rhythmic skills + Accurate singing skills + Sensitivity to the expressive qualities in music

The curriculum is based on early childhood research

related to the development of:

Music intelligence + Singing skills + Sensitivity to the beat and beat groups + Expressive movement + Musical memory + Preferences + Neurological connections

Curriculum is based on the Kodály method, Orff method, and the John Feierabend First Steps in Music/Conversational Solfege. Curriculum also engages the modern band concept through the Music Will program.
